DESERT DAWN

I painted this colourful miniature at around 6am on a weekend trip up to Joshua Tree National Park. In the desert the colours of the land are so neutral that they only come alive at dusk and dawn. That morning the sky had a brand-new-day freshness with a luminous pale blue green peeking through the rosy dawn clouds. My grandma used to say 'red sky in the morning, shepherd's warning' and sure enough it rained later that day. If you like this painting, you may also like San Diego Bay and Los Angeles Skyline
