BRIGHT MORNING

 It was just a brief glance to my left that inspired me to paint this scene in The Huntington Gardens. I was struck by how the shapes of the violet grey plant were so similar to the curves and colours of the statue. The two seemed connected, and yet one is only briefly in bloom while the other stands watch over the garden year after year. My imagination followed the statue's gaze deep into the garden which has grown up around him over all the years.
