Hello and thank you for visiting my site! My name is Amanda Mears and I am a British artist with a studio in Los Angeles. I make big paintings, but first I make small paintings.
My small paintings are the first stage in my creative process. They are about the joy of getting outside with my sketchbook and capturing the feeling of a place. They are part of a long art historical tradition of plein air painting (a French expression meaning ‘in the open air’) which trains the artist to really focus on the effects of changing light on a subject. These little watercolour paintings are the result of my deep personal engagement with the landscape as subject and inspiration. After years of being approached by passers-by wanting to buy pieces out of my sketchbook, I created this website to share my work more widely .
You can scroll down to see originals and prints from my travels, and click here to see work from my year-long painting project at the beautiful Huntington Gardens. Keep up with the latest news and special offers by signing up for my newsletter here, or read more about me and my process here. Happy browsing!
Each miniature painting is around 2 x 3 inches (54mm x 75mm). The originals sell out fast so I also offer limited edition Giclée prints on heavy archival cold press watercolour paper.
From $79 - FRAMES AND ARCHIVAL MATS INCLUDED. FREE SHIPPING IN THE US.
